8. Active Design Guidelines - Promoting physical activity and health in design in New York

Type of project: Guidelines Organization: Center for Active Design, New York City https://centerforactivedesign.org/guidelines/

Description

The Active Design Guidelines resulted from a collaborative effort among City agencies, New York’s health, planning, design, and architecture communities and academic institutions from across the country. The Guidelines address those responsible for the planning and construction of buildings, streets, and neighbourhoods. The publication seeks to educate designers about opportunities to increase daily physical activity, such as making stairs more visible and providing inviting streetscapes for pedestrians and cyclists. The Guidelines present strategies for designing neighbourhoods, streets, and outdoor spaces that encourage active transportation and recreation, including walking and cycling.
